If you have questions about your car’s security, we’re here to help. Follow these best practices to ensure a smooth experience for you and your guests while using Getaround.
The right home location can make all the difference when sharing a car on Getaround. A good home location...
...is someplace where you feel safe leaving the car, and where guests will feel safe picking it up.
… is easily accessible. Getaround encourages hosts to check their cars within 24 hours of every trip.
... has good reception. The Getaround Connect® relies on cell reception to execute commands and update the GPS.
Your listing should include instructions for finding the car as well as any unique features that may stand out when a guest arrives. If you use a lockbox, remember to include its location and combination.
Your instructions can also include requirements for the car’s safe return.
Enhanced Security (ES) is a software feature of Getaround Connect® that immobilizes your car when it’s not being used. When ES is activated, it prevents your car from being started. After unlocking the car with the Getaround app, the car will start as normal. It is strongly recommended for most car hosts to activate ES unless the car is parked in a valet-accessed garage.
Whenever you leave the key in the car, remember to lock the car with the Getaround app. With Enhanced Security enabled, this will prevent the car from being started until the car is unlocked with the app.
Keeping your car clean and roadworthy ensures that guests have a positive experience while driving your car. It’s also required by Getaround’s eligibility guidelines. Also remember to remove all personal items before your car’s first trip, including car accessories and phone chargers. If you have synched your phone with the car, be sure to delete all data stored within the car to ensure it is not accessed by a third party.
If guests contact you regarding account or booking information (including trip extensions) please refer them directly to Getaround guest services. To protect your personal information, please communicate with guests only through the Getaround app and do not give out your personal contact information.
Getaround’s community representatives are available 24/7 to handle concerns from guests or hosts. If you have a Trust & Safety-related issue ask to speak with a Trust & Safety agent and you’ll be connected with someone with specialized knowledge.

With the Getaround app and Getaround Connect®, you can find, book, and unlock reliable cars with your Android or iOS device wherever and whenever you need them in a Getaround-serviced area. All cars are required to meet Getaround’s vehicle eligibility requirements.
Cars, trucks, and vans are available by the hour or by the day so you have the perfect ride for any occasion. When you book a car, don’t forget to choose your level of insurance coverage for physical damage and roadside assistance.
The pick-up instructions provide important information such as where to find the parking pass or the key, or how to open the lockbox, if one is being used. Be sure to read these instructions thoroughly, and pay special attention to the host’s drop-off instructions to avoid any confusion.
When you arrive at the car, the Getaround app will guide you through a basic safety check that includes taking pictures of all four corners of the car. It’s also a good idea to ensure all the seat belts work, the tires have plenty of tread, and all lights are working properly.
Protect your personal information and get your questions answered by always using the Getaround app to communicate with the host during your trip. You should never be asked to pay a host directly or contact them outside the app. If you are, please get in touch with Getaround immediately.
Familiarize yourself with Getaround’s rules for guests to make sure you don’t accidentally incur a fine for smoking, returning the car incorrectly, or letting someone else drive. These infractions can result in financial penalties or even account deactivation.
Give yourself enough time to return the car to the location designated in the listing and conduct a post-trip inspection before the end of your trip. The Getaround app makes it easy to submit photos of the car. Remember to extend your trip if you’re running late or contact Getaround if you run into any problems.
