Jersey City, New Jersey, located in Hudson County, is the third-largest city in the New York Metropolitan area. Jersey City grew nearly 5% between 1990 and 2000 due to residents and businesses seeking refuge from the congestion and high cost of living in Manhattan. The city and county are among the most diverse areas in the country; less than 35% of the population was identified as Caucasian.
New Jersey is in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern regions of the U.S. It shares borders with New York, the Atlantic Ocean, the Delaware River, Pennsylvania, Delaware Bay, and Delaware. It spans 7,354 square miles, making it the fifth-smallest state, but it has about 9,300,000 residents, making it the 11th-most populous and most densely populated. The state capital is Trenton.
