Paterson, New Jersey, is the county seat in Passaic County. It has a population of approximately 149,000, making it New Jersey's third-largest city. Known as the Silk City for its dominant role in silk production during the later 19th century, Paterson was initially formed as a township and incorporated as a city on April 14, 1851.
