Tucson, Arizona, is home to the University of Arizona. It has a population of about 542,600 making it second only to Phoenix, its neighbor 108 miles to the northwest. Near the Mexico border, it was founded as a military fort by the Spanish in 1775 and later acquired as part of a land deal with Mexico.
